The ‘90s - The sexual rise of Calvin Klein.

A love for brands, materialism, lots of accessories and bold coloring all came out of the excesses of the 1980s. However, in the ‘90s, people became concerned about doing good things for the environment - a return to nature. Flexible styling, comfort-oriented casual clothing, cotton, linen and natural materials all describe ‘90s clothing styles.

 

When we think about ‘sexy’, words like fit-to-body, low cut, lace, curves, and flirtatious come to mind. But are these really so different? Did the ‘90s really not have any ‘sexy’ in it? If that’s what you’ve got in mind, think about Calvin Klein, who truly combined simplicity with sex.

 

In 1968, Calvin Klein set up a brand in his own image. The designer himself is dedicated to perfection. He prioritizes comfort, all the while keeping sex as part of the image. Calvin Klein’s commercials embody subtle indications of sex. The models represent fashion in a naturally simplistic way, with ever-present subtle sexiness. This American styling pushes us to get in touch with our sexual side. Kate Moss is a good example. She’s skinny, petite, and even has freckles. Yet, she’s the perfect representation of sexiness in Calvin Klein’s vision. It’s fair to say that Calvin Klein led fashion throughout the ‘90s and also created a new kind of sexy made from a mix of elegance and nature.

 

Now, sexiness is not just flirtatiousness or exposé. It can be calm, natural and subtle. Today, many other clothing brands have made combinations representing modern vs classic, and simple vs sexy in new innovative ways.  Simple Retro is one of these.
